The stock Solaris print system does not have -o options to select
printer features like single-sided or double-sided printing.
(I know this is the case for Solaris versions 2.3 through 9, but
I think it's also true for Solaris 10)

This is because printers implemented most of their features with
command languages that were different for each manufacturer.
There was no common command language to tell different printers
to do these things.

So they are usually implemented by software written by the printer
manufacturer. The Jetadmin/Jetdirect software from HP is one
example of that kind of software. The -o option recognized by HP's
Jetdirect software may be different from the -o option recognized
by Lexmark's software. Or Xerox's software.

Once you've installed the software from the printer manufacturer
and confirmed which -o option it recognizes to select single-sided
printing, there is a way to make Solaris automatically add the
-o option as if you typed it as part of the lp command. Post to
this newsgroup when you've reached that point and I'll post the
method to make that happen.
