If Solaris find a disk label it may believe that rather than probing
the whole disks; also, older Solaris versions only saw 8 gigs of such
disks so perhaps there was a remnant of an old Solaris label.

Installing seems to be a very good start :-)
Looking at process listings and familiarizing with what is already
running would be a good next step.
