Many of the modern large harddrives run alot cooler than "yesterdays"
small disks, so I dont think that would be a problem, at least if
he stays away from the 10krpm disks.

Also people claim that the SS10/20 is SO sensitive fpr heat, I have used my
Quad CPU (Two double ROSS Hypersparc modules) SS10 for years without
problems.. sure, the air coming out from it is HOT, but the machine
works perfectly fine, including the harddrive (wich is an 4gig seagate
for the same era as the SS10 itself..)

I dont say that it's running cool, but it can stand the heat pretty well..
(However I dont have a fb in it, but I think that the fb would have more
problem with the heat that the machine generate than the machine would have
with the heat the fb generates :)

Personally I only give swap (size depending on application and disksize) and
/var (usally around 1gig, but depending on application and disksize ofcoz..)
own partitions and let /opt and /usr reside on / , I dont use /export at all,
but ofcoz it's a matter of very personal opinions of the sysadmin :)

I also tend to compile most software myself and put it under /usr/local/
