you have another on the second or third drive.
setup correctly the system will failover the booting to the remaining
drives.

well, that depens on how the filesystem are setup, but in solaris 9 and up
the raid software sets the whole drive to error and disables it if its a
physical error of the drive.
If its just a soft error only the filesystem gets errored.
in either case, the system should not crash, unless you are VERY unlucky.

yes, once its setup, all the on site person needs to do is swap the new
drive in, with the right system its hotswap and no need to shutdown the
system. you can then go in remotely to sync the drives.
