SSH is the way to go. However, do have a look at NXServer
(http://www.nomachine.com). I use it here to connect to our e4500
running headless and it's quite good:

(Note - The Suse icon is actually mozilla. I didn't find a nice mozilla
icon in /usr/share/pixmaps)
