Hello everyone,
I recently swapped the old 2.12 BootProm of this SparcStation 10 I own
for a 2.25. Now, today I - finally - realized that POST now says that
this machine is a SparcStation 20. Reading this, I included a 32MB
DIMM into the machine, one of those which are not supposed to work for
SparcStation 10-type machines. Well, guess what? It now works.
So, how much influence does the Open Boot Prom have on the hardware
compatibility? I am thinking about placing a cd-rom in the place of
the second hard disk in the SparcStation 10 chassis ... Could this
work or should I not bother to try for some reasons?
I would be very grateful for some replies concering the powers of OBP
in general and the cd-rom issue in particular.
(PS: dont mind my sig, I just realized I am posting to all newsgroups
I am reading with a special one from another newsgroup)
