Hmmm. Mine never did that. The Sparc 20 ROM would not boot and the
Sparc 10 ROM reports the machine as a Sparc 10. You wouldn't happen to
have a Sparc 10SX, would you?

AFAIK, CDROM support has always been there. You didn't need a ROM
upgrade for that. But I wonder how you plan the mount the drive. There
are no externally accessible drive bays on a Sparc 10. Floppies come in
through a slot but that won't work for a CDROM. Even if you made a hole
in the front, you would have to deal with a a SCSI connector this is on the
wrong side.
External CDROM drives are no problem. For years, I used an SS20's CDROM
drive in an external case attached to my SS10.
