I'm looking for a SCSI cable to connect an HVD autoloader (StorEDGE
L9) to a SCSI card. I have a 1 m long cable, 530-1884, which is listed
on Sunsolve
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Devices/Cables/530-1884.html
but no mention of use for is made. There is nothing to suggest the
cable is for any particular SCSI type, or suitable for high voltage
differentail (HVD) use.
If the pinout at
http://www.paralan.com/qc68.html
is to be believed, pins 1-16, 20-34 are all ground in single ended
cables, but not on differential cables. The pinout listed on the Sun
cable show these pins are NOT commoned, but have sepparate wires for
each. This makes me think the cable is likely to be suitable for HVD.
(From what I gather, some cables cut down the number of conductors
needed by commoning the ground lines. This makes them totally
unsuitable for HVD use).
I don't know the cable impedance, but suspect this is pretty
irrelavant on a 1 m cable.
I've not tried this cable yet, but I have tried another 68-68 pin SCSI
cable with a non-Sun HVD card. The card is reconised at the OBP, but
the autoloader is not seen on the bus.
