  Generally it should work, but more details would be helpful.

  What's the part numbers of the dead monitor, working monitor and the
video card in the Sparc 10?

  Have you tried to re-boot the Sparc 10? Did you see anything on the
monitor during the reboot (blank, something but unreadable, etc)?

  Were you running the old monitor at a old size? (Old for Sun's anyway)

  Most sun monitors will handle 1152x900 resolution but not all.
