I'm using one (SCSI-IDE converter) with my Ultra-2, and having
no problems (once I moved it to an external 50-pin SCSI bus. The
problem with the internal one is that the bridge which I got is really a
wide SCSI bus, but is narrowed down just to connect to the DVD-ROM
drive. Since the card I got (made by "Acard" happened to be a wide SCSI
-- the negotiation between the controller an the Acard on the drive
failed. It negotiated wide, but didn't have an actual wide connection.
The box which I came in is almost within reach, but I would have to
disturb the cat in my lap to get it. IIRC, my 68-pin one is the 7222 (or
7-something-22), and there is a 50-pin one, which I did not find at the
web site where I ordered it.

Well ... My Ultra-5 uses IDE -- but it is in service at the
moment, so I can't look for what chip is on the main board. That one
works quite well with a DVD burner (DVD+/-RW/+/-R by I/OMagick, based on
what I can see on the box -- I picked it up at MicroCenter about a
couple of weeks ago, after I got the Ultra-5 for $20.00.)

To burn DVDs, you need the CD-RECORD package (which comes in
recent versions of Solaris, and Solaris-10 has the latest version), plus
the growisofs package, which comes as part of dvd+rw-tools-5.21.4.10.8.

            Enjoy,
                    DoN.
