I have heard of quad-fast ethernet cards which can be inserted via one
PCI slot and it will be possible to provide 4 external IP connections
with it.
I would like to know whether there are any such cards for 8 external
interfaces i.e. something like octa-fast ethernet cards, available.
Does anybody have information on it?
Use 2 * QFE or 2 * Quad Giga in a suitable PCI based machine. Unless
you find something with proprietary connectors, I don't think there is
the real-estate on the back of a PCI card for 8 ethernet ports. If you
do find one, pretty sure it'll be expensive!
Alternatively use one VLAN capable gigabit ethernet card, and attach a
cisco or HP VLAN capable switch. --> 24 FastEthernet ports.
you can connect the serial console of the switch to ttyb.
Notes:
1) This does not help if you need to watch the FastEthernet interface.
2) I have only done this with linux.
3) There is only one VLAN capable gigabit ethernet card for SBUS,
and only for Solaris 2.6.
I have put 2 qe in a Ultra 1, and have an extra for expansion.
This uses a lot of ports on the connected switch.
