I got my new toy... so heres some comments:

There is a second SATA connector on the board so you could run an
external disk.

I've also noticed that there is room for a 2.5" disk in the front. In
fact there is room for at least two in front of the fans.

We preordered and someone told us two drives would fit so we ordered
two but of course only fits. I had them verify that and they
confirmed so we got the second disk while I was hoping that sun had
either swtiched to the T2000 drives or they had rearranged the case
for two disks. The SATA cables weren't included so I guess I'll
have to find some somewhere.

I'm going to attempt to find a SATA to ATA converter and adapter
to a 2.5" disk and see how that works if at all. I'm also going
to put in a 250 gig just to see how it goes. I hope it goes
better than a 200 gig in a v100. That didn't work under solaris
and it appeared to work under freebsd but there is clearly
a 128 gig limit somewhere since sometimes the data block
gets truncated to 128 gig and sometimes it doesn't.

It appears that the chipset on the T1000 supports serial SCSI so I
wonder if you can plug one in. If thats the case then there is
room for 4 drives in the box.

When we got our server, there were some problems.
0) The plastic fan holder wasn't installed properly and it was bent.
It seems to be ok now that it was forced into its proper location.
1) We got one extention bracket and it was lose in the box.

Minor issues include:
00) With something so new, base media with the minium solaris sould
have been a great help.
01) The thing wouldn't come on (no disk, not serial or eithernet)
and only woke up when told to via serial port. I would have expected
it to at least attempt to boot.
10) lack of cables for the drive
11) why did the sun order system think two drives were ok?

There was some discussion about how loud it was compared to the
x2100 and the x2100 makes more noise.

I've been checking the benchmarks and it appears that they
left out a barrel multiplier out of the integer CPU. If thats
the case, I wonder how slow it will be doing things like shifts
as well.

I'll see how it takes some abuse in the morning once we set up a
netboot server and boot the thing for a full install. Does anyone
make a SATA DVD drive that it can boot off off? Any chance of USB
booting?

I wonder how hard it is to move an entire 5.7 system to a 5.10 zone.
