Slightly off topic - what O/S would be best on a SparcStation 20 with
Quad 100MHz HyperSparc CPUs and 384MiB of RAM?
As with all these things, it depends on what you want to do with it.
True. At this point I have not decided. The machine last used Solaris 9
a few years ago and has been sitting idle since. Rather than see it get
thrown away I was wondering what it could run and then decide what to
use it for.
(Although as the framebuffers supplied with these machines arent great
by todays standards, yo may have to turn some of the eye candy off. Not
that IMHO sliding menus make my life easier in any way)
It does not have the video RAM DIMM installed (it was a server all its
life) but I have added a CG6? framebuffer SBUS card.
As it is not in a desktop case (have a look at the TowerPAC picture
here: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~carlo/hardware.html ) I doubt it
will be used as a desktop system. It also only has 10 Mbit/sec ethernet.
