I was hoping there was a way to get it thru the menus on the front panel, but
doing a search of ALL the documentation on the V20z and V40z (they group them

Run the hostid command. :-)
Thanks, Rich, but without Solaris installed? Next suggestion. lol
(This V40 is really starting to piss me off!! LOL)
Boot into single user mode off the CD and run the hostid command?

Dumb question, but how do I interrupt the Sol9 install disk 1 from loading? I mean, Stop A just stopped the machine dead in its tracks.
If I let it load and get to the first screen about drivers, etc., then I'm stuck, too... aren't I?
There is a 'hostid' command with SLES10, but quite frankly, I don't trust its results, since the number looks so diff than what I was given.
From the boot prom (after pressing Stop A) just type:
boot cdrom -s
This will bring you to a command prompt where you can type in the hostid command. At least I think you can...I haven't actually tried it to see if the command is available from the CDROM. That's why I put a question mark at the end of my original comment.

Thanks for that suggestion, Josh. I appreciate you trying to help me.
That works on SPARC machines, but not on this x86 architectured box. Stop A just stopped the machine dead in its tracks. I looked through the PROM commands on this machine and Hostid is nowhere to be found. According to the manuals, before you can use the serial console you have to configure the Service Processor (which, interestingly enough, uses embedded Linux to monitor and manage reporting of temperatures, fan speeds, etc.).
