I have a E450 which came with Solaris 2.6 and is running now Solaris

Well, as the others already told you this system is slow, and its old.
You should not expect up to date performance from a 400MHz UltraSPARC II....
So I
want to try Linux on it but it seems not to be easily to set up a Linux
(aurora) on such system.
Linux won't solve your problem. Either your task requires a more
powerful hardware, or there is something messed up with your software
installation.

OK Benjamin.
But the system has four 400 Sparc processors each with 1Gygabyte RAM
and 6x 10.000 rpm SCSI drives. It should be as fast as a normal single
Pentium system.
