No kidding. Now I'm looking for an 880 and I doubt I'll find one
before they're so old I won't have a use for it. I really do like
the SPARC architecture and I'm happy to spend a few more watts than
an Opteron would consume.
Besides, I find that Sun boxes like the aforementioned E450 might
not have the CPU grunt of other processors but they seem to behave
better, and have more better I/O performance than a lot of the toy boxes
of a similar CPU power. That might just be perception though, or a
deep-seated disdain for the whole x86 thing, starting with that whole
"BIOS" thing and moving through every half-arsed design decision all the
way to the Windows-specific hardware hacks.
