Not necessarily broken. Its possible your input device has been set to something else than it should be. If you could boot off a CD, and get to the OS, you could clear that up.

You could also try the "Safe NVRAM mode", which is a way to drop the NVRAM configuration to defaults using the power button. Google for the procedure (Sun manuals will pop up). Eg: http://docs.sun.com/source/817-3171-10/817-3171-10.pdf
