I found a terminator would be also neccessary, can I use an U320 (VHD68) one,

terminator ?

The latter: you'll NEED an HVD terminator.

The manual says something about dummies, for unpopulated slots, are they
_absolutely_ neccessary ? Or does it not affect cooling too much if left void
? Where do I get them ?

Not absolutely; I've been using my 12-drive D1000 for years without filling
all slots, and that's in my basement which doesn't have ideal air conditioning!

Last one:
The D1000 has 2 pairs of Connectors labeled "SCSI A" and "SCSI B", do I
understand it right, I could connect 2 Hosts accessing the 12 drives ??

No; you could connect two hosts each accessing 6 drives.

Or would I need a "bridging cable" to access all 12 drives from one single
host ?

Usually, but not necessaily. Most HVD HBAs come with two ports, so you
can either connect one port to all 12 drives using a bridging cables, or
you can connect 6 drives to each port using a separated cable (but no
bridiging cable), much the same as connecting two hosts. The latter is
how mine is set up, so that I can mirror the drives using different
ports.
