connector is connected to ground which could destroy the drivers on the
controller board if that boards is differential so pay attention.
Definitely a good idea to avoid it, but I wouldn't get overly worried
about it. I've attached a number of HVD and non-HVD devices together
over the years (often incorrect terminators). It jams the bus royally,
but I've never noticed any permanent damage due to such incidents.
