Re: Add new hardware driver to Solaris 8 on a Compaq Proliant 1600

Hmm. The "eeprom" is just some files in the boot area (usually mounted
as /boot). I think it's in the bootenv.rc file. Does that file have a
'boot-file' set?

I didn't realize you weren't completing the boot. Does entering ':c' in
the debugger do anything useful?

The ":c" doesn't do anything except repeat the list of commands
available
in the boot debugger. "c" is to continue from the breakpoint. All it
does
is return the prompt of [c000:2dd7]

Ahh... hmm... yeah... If the CD boot DCA can't complete the hardware
list, I'm assuming something is wrong with the hardware.

Before the hardware configuration routine do you get the option to
disable probing any of the devices? You may be able to have it skip
hardware that it doesn't have real mode drivers for.

Unfortunately I can't. Once I'm in the Secondary Boot program (3.00)
I can either allow it to boot from the default device or I can press
<ESC>
and access the Configuration Assistant. Once in the Configuration
Assistant I have 4 options:
<F2> Continue
<F3> Specific scan
<F4> Add driver
<F6> Help

Any choice I make here leads me to the debugger. Here is the output.

Determining bus types and gathering hardware configuration data ...
Entering boot debugger:
[c000:2dd7]:

I think it's lost. IIRC the hardware configuration data sits on a
"system partition" set aside for Compaq BIOS. I've lost the
system partition after the patch update. So I don't think it's
recoverable.

Thanks again for your help Darren. I could pick your brain some
more but instead of beating around the bush I can just go ahead
and reinstall everything (starting with the compaq stuff).

I appreciate your help.
Dennis.
