I am luky to get for free 2 sunfire 280R.
I want to use this 2 280R like gateway for a wireless network in some
big's congres for a week or more.
For comodity I want to use X on this machines. To do so I install frame
buffer like the model I saw in the sun Full Components List for this
machines.
how to startX now? ( to access the 280R by network and work on it with X
and may be some things like VNC)
Is it possible (and needed) to find and install mouse and keybord to
work ont the 280R like work station? Where can I find this harware?
Is it necessary to install a new harware card for this?
Have you sat by the 280R yet? Did the fan noise deafen you enough to
think that there's probably a reason that most 280R's don't come with
frame buffers?
Otherwise, with a new enough Solaris install on them, and the correct
packages installed, you should be able to plug any USB keyboard/mouse
in and have X windows startup if its enabled to do so (is by default).
Yes noise is big. I have a small room with all my computers.
We will use this machine for time to time for big show. We are geek
association specialised in the wifi for the fun and the "FREE".
Do you said usb keyboard and a usb mouse OR usb keyboard with small
round connection for mouse like SUN keyboard and mouse for sparc station?
Do you know setting EEPROM to get usb keyboard and mouse work?
I have to find SUN matérial only?
The 280R is new enough to be USB only, not with a Sun Type-5 keyboard port.
That type has been depreciated, and Sun is USB only now.
Any keyboard/mouse should work, you shouldn't be restricted to Sun only kit.
It should just work when powered on with the USB keyboard connected,
and a frame-buffer in the machine. You do need to have the keyboard
connected before power on.
