Otherwise, with a new enough Solaris install on them, and the correct
packages installed, you should be able to plug any USB keyboard/mouse
in and have X windows startup if its enabled to do so (is by default).

Do you said usb keyboard and a usb mouse OR usb keyboard with small
round connection for mouse like SUN keyboard and mouse for sparc station?
Do you know setting EEPROM to get usb keyboard and mouse work?
Any USB keyboard and mouse will work -- though the keyboards
will be missing some of the special codes which the Sun ones can send,
and you *do* need a mouse with at least three buttons (thus not a Mac
single-button keyboard). I'm using a Logitech optical trackball for a
mouse, though I am using the Sun USB keyboard.
You *cannot* use the older Sun keyboards or mice with the round
DIN connectors.
And you don't need to do *anything* with the EEPROM to get a USB
keyboard or mouse to work. The defaults are to use the USB for keyboard
and mouse -- because that system does not have the DIN connectors for
the older keyboards.
Also -- if you don't have a keyboard plugged in when you boot,
it will instead use a terminal connected to TTY-A as a console. To
substitute for Stop-A you will need to send a break, and I forget what
you need to duplicate the Stop-N function.
I have to find SUN matérial only?
You don't *have* to -- but some things are easier with a real
Sun keyboard -- such as the Stop-A to reset to the OBP, or the Stop-N to
reset the EEPROM settings to defaults. And the Sun keyboard for the USA
is available in either the Unix programming style (with Control to the
left of the 'A' key) or the word processing/PC style (with Caps Lock
where Control should be. There are keyboards available for many other
languages as well, including French.
Good Luck,
DoN.
