For what it's worth, I have installed Solaris 2.6, 7, 8 and 9
from CD-ROM and DVD. Each and everyone of these +/-20 installations
have been successful. I've installed SO 5.1, 5.2, 6 and 7 on
these platforms, and again, I never had any problems. So there
is hope.
The fact that you have so many problems with the downloaded
copies of Solaris should motivate you to acquire the CD-ROM
or DVD media.
