What time did you notice this? Any heavy crontab stuff started? I remember
the first time I heard my Ultra2 start some of the overnight crontab stuff
at 03:15am, I thought it was going to blow up! Rattled the disks, making
lots of noise, for a good while, then settled down and was quiet again.
Actually, it was almost as noisy as running software RAID5 in a 711 box
with 5 disks, doing lots of writes. I'm amazed those disks don't whack
themselves to death!? Maybe they do, and that's why we get them on eBay?
