Linux es en general un sistema más "ligero" que Solaris, y de hecho en
las máquinas más lentas ofrece una mayor sensación de agilidad, de que
responde más rápidamente al usuario. También ocupa menos memoria.

Sin embargo las librerías del compilador C (libc.so y libm.so) de
Solaris están mucho mejor optimizadas. Especialmente la librería
matemática. Esto es, los programas compilados en Solaris suelen correr
más rápidamente, a veces sustancialmente más.

Además el hardware de Sun está mejor soportado en Solaris.

Haz la prueba y échale un vistazo a Linux; si te ofrece un rendimiento
general acorde con tus expectativas/necesidades, adelante... pero si tu
máquina tiene más de 64 MB de RAM, seguramente funcionará mejor con Solaris.
