Database Administrator
Canadian Century Research Infrastructure (CCRI)
Temporary assignment without loss of privileges or contract until April
30, 2005, with renewal option
Ottawa, Ontario
Job Summary
Reporting to the Project Coordinator, you will manage social science
research databases, supervise back-up procedures, set the data disaster
recovery plan, communicate with team members on infrastructure
construction and integration, implement web-based data entry and oversee
dissemination and performance monitoring.
Qualifications
* Knowledge of computer science, information technology and system
management normally acquired through a postsecondary education
program or through equivalent experience
* Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining a DB2 database
* Experience in system analysis and using techniques of logical data
modelling
* Experience with automated testing tools
* Experience with usability heuristics and usability evaluation
methods
* Experience creating virtual private networks and distributed
systems
* Knowledge of networking, common programming languages, various
hardware platforms and operating systems (UNIX, Windows NT)
* Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
* Solid interpersonal and communication skills
* Good organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
* Ability to learn technical concepts and new technology rapidly
* Ability to work with minimum supervision and with cross-functional
teams
* Bilingualism (preferred)
* Familiarity with historical and social sciences research an asset
The salary scale will be between $49,253 and $67,723, commensurate with
experience and qualifications.
