Disk caching of backups is good (quick local restores).
Tape backup is good for offsite storage (reliability).
Cost of disk has become cheap enough to consider offsite
archival of disks... but I've always been concerned about
the shelf life and durability of doing that.
So, today, I still prefer local disk caching to tape to
offsite archival.
