proftpd and yum

I've got a Fedora Core 3 system that I need to install ProFTPD on, and
that ProFTPD has to be able to talk to OpenLDAP, where our
PosixAccounts are defined (our users aren't in /etc/passwd, etc).

I'm a Slackware tarball hacker from back in the day, but this is a
system that should be maintainable by busy sysadmins, so I'm trying to
do it 'right,' with everything setup so that a simple 'yum update'
should be adequate for as long as the box is running Core 3. The
sysadmin who will be primarily running the box is adamant about ProFTPD
(just as he is about Postfix, etc), and in the interest of good will
and low friction, I'm trying to accomodate.

I managed to get the 'dag' repository setup and got `yum install
proftpd.i386` to work, so far so good. However, `proftpd -l` revealed,
as expected, that the binary was not compiled with LDAP support. I
note in the freshrpms description page that 'rpmbuild --with ldap' is
an option, so I manually wget'd the .src.rpm from freshrpms and did
just that.

My question now, is, how does this stay updated via yum, if indeed it
does? Is there a .src.rpm file I should have downloaded? (It's
satisfactory to at least have such a file collected as part of an
'update' run, with some sort of notification that the .src.rpm file has
been updated; I can put the necessary rpmbuild commands into the
runbook page for the service. I just don't want to put the sysadmin in
a position where he has to visit the site to determine if a newer
version of the software is available.)

Many thanks!
Wendell
