Job Description / Duties: Houston TX Opening
·Work in a varied environment that includes, but is not limited to,
platform running Linux, HP-UX, Solaris and IRIX
·Monitor health and performance of systems
·Monitor and troubleshoot complex applications
·Administration duties such as adding/modifying user accounts,
updating NIS/DNS maps and performing scheduled backups
·Script various administrative tasks such as automated monitoring and
notification, file system cleanup and configuration reporting
·Configure and install systems ranging from workstations to enterprise
class and cluster systems including tape, disk and plotting subsystems
·Troubleshoot and repair systems ranging from workstations to
enterprise class and cluster systems including tape, disk and plotting
subsystems
·Patch and upgrade systems ranging from workstations to enterprise
class systems including tape, disk and plotting subsystems
·Work on projects such as testing/implementing new hardware, tools,
applications and configurations
·Develop and maintain documentation or procedures and processes, as
well as, maintenance logs and equipment databases
·Participate in the on-call rotation for after hours and weekend
problems (About 1 week in 5).
Requirements:
·1 year experience in working in a Linux environment; Linux cluster
environment a plus
·3 years experience in UNIX Systems Administration, Linux, HP-UX,
Solaris, IRIX are desirable
·Must have a understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, VPNs, SAN's
and switched networks
·Demonstrated ability to automate various systems administrative
actions needed
·Script writing skills a plus, Perl desired.
·The ability to be productive with moderate supervision required along
with the ability to spot opportunities and seize them
·Must be eager to learn and grow their career
·Must be able to function effectively in a variety of team styles and
sizes
·The ability to think "outside the box" and bring resulting ideas to
the team needed
·Must be able to work well in an unpredictable environment and be able
to effectively adjust priorities and focus as requirements shift in a
dynamic environment
·Ability to tackle projects from start to finish in a predictable and
efficient manner is necessary
·Must be a "can do" individual that finds and presents solutions
rather than reasons why "it can't be done"
·Must be able to document procedures and processes and keep that
documentation up to date, as well as communicate clearly and effectively in
both written and verbal formats.
·Outgoing, a good team player, someone who is a proven mentor, and is
willing and able to share knowledge
