Jochen et al,
I obviously have a system (hardware?) problem, where I can only boot from
the hard drive. With the hard drive out due to the failed upgrade, I'm done.
(Next time, I'll be going step by step instead of trying to jump from 5100
directly to 5103.)
No rebuild of AIX possible, no SMS, no nothing. No service either, as the
box is 1.5 yrs old. I'll just have to drop by IBM with it anyhow.
Thank you all for your help so far. Now it's up to the local IBM repair
shop.
Regards,
Jan

Nope, had the CD in all the time.

None of the above, but I'll just have to take it to IBM for a check-up
anyhow.

No ASCII terminals around to test this, unfortunately.

Tried that. No change.

But that in itself was valuable in determining the nature of the problem.
Thanks!

Since my manual mentions the IBM 9GB & 18GB disks only, I was uncertain if
the microcode only recognized and/or accepted these disks as boot disks.
However, it obviously makes no difference what sort of disk is mounted.

I kinda expected that, of course :-)
What I had hoped for was for this to trigger a CD boot, but the ROM boot
program just goes in a loop.

Sorry, this is my only AIX box in the lab. Somehow, I don't think creating a
Linux boot disk would help either...
> Not sure if my suggestions are any longer helpfull
They've been very helpful in determining the nature of the problem, thank
you.
