At which level is the HMC? I encountered some interesting (chinese version)
behaviours of the HMC at 3.1.0 and 3.1.2 - today I upgraded to 3.1.3, seems
to be smoother.

There's a Redbook, there are manpages and there is the -? as argument to
most of the commands. But be prepared: mapages, -?, Redbook and expected
options by the commands often differ. Not only with the "documented"
commands. My coworkers sometimes changed colour while I was discovering the
real behaviour :-)
Complete managment of the CEC via commandline is a non-trivial part which
should be done via scripts, as some commands want the LPAR-ID, some want
the name of the LPAR, some want the CEC-Name, some the CEC-ID, ...
