It is recommended but I have never seen more than anecdotal evidense to
support that claim. This is a similar setup to what we use. Not everything
we have on our SAN is current using LAN-free backup, but some systems are
and others are moving towards it. All of our RISC systems (and all of the
Intel) on the SAN have dual HBAs (using SDD for the disk) with access to
disk and tape, and we do not experience any problems. Incidentally, the
wording I have read on the disclaimer about disk and tape sharing an HBA
seems to indicate only that it may be a problem in a single HBA
environment, not when multiple HBAs are being used and there is
load-balancing, etc. HTH.
