You're right in general, but for the wrong reason. HACMP works out names
and stuff when it needs to. The main reason HACMP cares about the type
of card is in the network type - ethernet cards of all types are treated
differently to token-ring. For example, if ethernet comms stop out of an
adapter, it's dead or it's cable is or it's switch is. In token-ring,
the ring may be reconfiguring, so you have to wait awhile before
thinking it's dead.

It's also a more involved operation if you want to keep the nodes up
whilst this is going on. I was just asnwering in the context of the
original question.
