You'll want to disably getty on the port.

You'll also need to set up the system. For example, I use cu
to let two systems talk to each other via tty0 (for kernel
debugging). You'll want to add a line to /etc/uucp for the
device:

Direct tty0 - 9600 direct

and the command will then be "cu -ml /dev/tty0"
