I just had a meeting with a senior marketing manager of the IBM
Systems Group and he told us AIX 5.3 is expected to be announced
August 31, 2004 (other sources mention August 15, 2004) with the
following main features: sub-processor DLPARs (10 LPARs per
processor), virtual IO, intra-partition virtual ethernet, and shrinkfs
(chfs -a size=-1 /fs). Also, with the announcement of the new POWER5
line three low-end linux-only boxes (1-way, 2-way, 4-way) will be
announced. Their list price is expected to start at USD 2000 (not
including OS license).
