Up to and including AIX 5.1, it's always a variant of the procedure:
backup data on LV -> remove LV -> recreate LV -> restore data
If it's a non-vital LV, for instance, one not in rootvg, then just use the
formula above, or, if you have enough disk space, create the new LV first,
mount a FS on it, copy data from old LV's FS, remove old FS/LV and finally,
change the mount point of the new FS.
If, however, you have /, /usr, /tmp, or /var that's bloated, read up here:
