How is your printer connected. 16 port RAN? If so, suspect the cable!
Make sure your cable uses all handshaking signals.

Txd to Rxd
Rxd to Txd
CTS to RTS
RTS to CTS
DTR to DSR, DCD
DSr, DCD to DTR
Gnd to Gnd

Check the port setting. Perhaps you may have to change the "Pacing"
parameter. Xon/Xoff to RTS/CTS
