I assumed that it's not dangerous to delete these files, as one
filename contained "log", the other one "tmp". I admit I tend to be a
bit rash, but fortunately AIX recreated the files, I checked it.

The occupied disk space of 24 MB is a lot, if you consider that the
system is from 1993, a IBM POWERstation RISC System/6000 Model
7011-250 with PowerPC 601 processor. And they're just log files. And
you know from the df command, how small the partitions are.
I think it's not worth spending efforts in increasing the size of the
/var partition.

Anyway, back to the topic: the "disk full" error is gone now, but
after about 25 minutes of working in X-window the system still
automatically logs off. Is there a log file I can check to find out
why this happens?
Can it be because of the year 2000 issue, the system shows now Jan
1st, 1970?
