If you have enough free disk space, that is very easy.
But it's your choice of course.

Which version of AIX are you running?
Is the 'X-window' the CDE or did you start it with xinit from the command
line? Do you log in via graphical interface or on the console?
you can try and run 'errpt' to check if problems were reported.
I once had windows disappearing in response to a SIGPANIC from the
kernel because virtual memory was running low.

I suspect that your battery is empty (it buffers the time when the
machine is turned off). Do you experience booting problems (lost
bootlist)?
Year 2000 was just a sham drawn up by computer companies in order to
make people buy all the latest hard- and software ;^)
