Newbie question - I am installing AIX 4.3 onto a 7025-F30. After the
installation of the basic default system, I have tried to load the
Maintenace Package two different ways. I downloaded the ML07
xxxx.tar.gz file to my PC and burned it to a CD to load onto the
RS/6000. I also reinstalleed the AIX 4.3 and used the LAN connection
and Netscape to download the same xxxx.tar.gz file to the machine
directly. When I try to follow the instructions given on the IBM
download site for unzipping the file, I get an error message that is
something like this:

Unexpected end-of-file .........

I used the procedure as follows:

Download and install instructions
Click on the package name below.
Put the package (a tar.gz file) in /usr/sys/inst.images
Extract the filesets from the package.
cd /usr/sys/inst.images
gzip -d -c 4330007.tar.gz | tar -xvf -

When trying to execute the gzip command, I get the EOF message. I have
also tried to determine whether the gzip program exists and can't seem
to find it.

Additionally, I downloaded a gzip for AIX from www.gzip.org. When I
tried to use the tar command to restore the program file to the
machine I get a similar EOF message. I am really not to familiar with
command syntax nor do I really know how to decipher the error message.
I wonder if there is something involving the tar command that is the
real trouble I have been meeting.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards - Bernie
