We never boot or have OS disks on our SAN. IBM data on internal drives,
corporate data in SAN..... no mixing. Our standard is 4 internal
drives, one for the OS, another for OS mirror. The other 2 internal are
for alt_disk operations, and alt_disk mirror.
Way too much stuff has to be working for a SAN boot. (HBA's, cables,
switches, SAN luns... etc). Additionally have you seen all the work
arounds and gotchas over the years for booting from a SAN in an EMC
Symmetrix or Clarion environment? Very ugly. The above configuration
has worked very well for us for the last 10 years. Just a thought.
