Actually I', doing the same thing, but for AIX 5.3 and 5.2. The server is SunOne DS.
I successfully compiled everything I need in AIX 5.3. Soon I'll do the same for 5.2. I can sucessfully use ldapsearch.
I'm configuring OpenLDAP in AIX, I'm not using IBM LDAP client because it has some restrictions that I need.
There are several documents you can look at.
The first I'ld advise to read is redbook http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246066.pdf
There is also the security reference book http://publib16.boulder.ibm.com/doc_link/en_US/a_doc_lib/aixbman/security/security.pdf
But there are more...
Also:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg246622.pdf
read first three charpters, there are info. on nss_ldap/pam_ldap configure options.
http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/aix/whitepapers/ldap_client.pdf
Google: "site:www.ldapguru.com aix"
