We have a 44P model 170 running AIX 4.3.3 which has suddenly decided
to not allow users to login. At boot time, it gives two different
errors which may or may not be related to the problem at hand:
"srcmaster is not accepting connections" and "the System Resource
Controller is having socket problems". There are no error codes
displayed on the front-panel LCD.
To followup to my own post (sorry):
The fix was to connect to the first serial port (9600/8N1) and exit to
a shell to delete a huge core file in / which was preventing srcmstr from
starting.
Hitting F5 or 5 at boot time didn't so any good, evidently because the
system was set up to use a serial console (why? how does one change this?).
