So... I have a mksysb, but I really don't want to take the system down to
restore from it. My current thought is to use tar on the mksysb tape to
restore systems files, but I'm not sure that will work. Is restoring from
mksysb my only option at this point?
Well...
1. Congratulate yourself for having a mksysb.
2. Pop the mksysb tape in the attached tape drive.
3. Look into the 'restore' command -- if you don't
have the man page, you should be able to find it
via IBM's docs site or a Google search.
The reason why I am not giving exact restore commands is
because I do not know exactly how you handled backups on
the mksysb tape, so I think it is safest to refer you to
the restore man page.
4. For future reference, also helps to list OS version. :)
I don't think you'll need to reboot to restore from the mksysb tape.
If that works, you'd want to do 'bosboot -ad /dev/hdisk0' (and if
mirrored, also for hdisk1) then reboot.
P.S. feel free to lecture me on my stupidity :(
Heh, nah, been there, done that (the goof), got the t-shirt.
