I am in the process of upgrading a IBM Intellistation, model 9112-265
from AIX 5.1 to AIX 5.3 running a single 1 way Power3-II 450
processor.
I am under the impression that this processor has 8MB of L2 cache, and
when running AIX 5.1, 'lsattr -El L2cache0' does report that the
processor has 8MB of L2 cache.
I am afraid that I have long since forgotten the details about that
decent processor, but all hope is not lost. :-)
Is there a way to tell what the real size of the L2 cache is?
If AIX 5.3 is getting it wrong and using only 4MB, should the system
remain on AIX 5.1?
Nah. I would guess probably cosmetic? Don't know for sure.
Does this sound like a script for a Monty Phython show ?
:-)
Any insights would be appreciated...
Here's my suggestion:
Run, don't walk, and fetch this handy little tool:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/tools/perftools/perfpmr/
(Fetch perf53.tar.Z from perf53 subdirectory for AIX 5.3.)
Uncompress, untar that file into its own directory, then run the 'lsc'
utility, without any arguments.
It will tell you *EVERYTHING* about your processor, and is extremely
detailed. It will tell you many things about your processor that AIX
won't tell you about. It is extremely accurate.
