The only way to recover from this is to boot from a AIX mksysb media or a
copy of the AIX original cd 1 (tape or cdrom).
Boot from media
Select Start Maintenance Mode for System Recovery
Import rootvg
Do your thing .
Go to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/index.jsp
and selectAIX Documentation / How To's and search for Cloning

I recently got a J30 to play around with. I am used to Linux and not
UNIX. I accidently removed the linked files from / (/bin and /unix, are
there others? I cant find much info...) It is running AIX 4.3.3 with 6
CPUs and 2GB of RAM. I have a console attached (3153). When I try to
login as root it says it cannot set the envirement. I can login as my
username, but I have no permissions to do anything. When I turn the key
to maintenence mode, I get a ">" prompt.
How do I get into a single-user mode and repair the root fs (/)?
All I need to do is link the /bin to /usr/bin and the /unix to...not
sure, but will keep looking.
Can anyone help me out with this? Also where can I find tapes or CD's
for AIX for sale that will run on the MCA J30?
Thanks, confused guy with 300 pounds of metal.
