I'm having this same problem. I'm trying to install AIX 5.1 or
AIX 5.2 and get the same result. These CDs work on 7043-150,
but not on the 7044-170.
Any help appreciated...Ed

Hi all:
Here I try to install AIX 4.3.3 on 7044-170 with 1GB Ram, 36GB HD,
GXT3000P display card. I could find the HD under SMS, but couldn't find
in boot list. When I try to install the O.S. , the display panel will
show "0518", and hang!
Do you know how to fix the problem?
P.S. The firmware version is : SPH04194
Best regards!

Try to push 5 button (install media inserted in CDROM) on the keyboard
when the system is booting - this will force the default bootlist - that
is the system will try to boot from the install CD - you will see it on
the ASCII screen "AIX is starting" - boot device will have ide@...
instead of st@... of sd@... if it is booted from SCSI tape or drive.
Usually the 0518 indicates that the system tries to find DNS, NIS, NFS
or etc. servers and does not succeed.

Randy!
According to your output, the system is booting from the internal HDD,
not CD-ROM.
May be my previous post was a little bit confusing. When your system
boots, it will show alfanumeric codes on the LCD panel (as I understand
that is the hw check) and after that it is showing on the monitor
something like "keyboard ... speaker" (do not remember correct names,
but these will be either icons or words and if your system speaker is
functioning, you will hear small beep during this process), once you see
keyboard or heard the beep - you should push "5" button on the keyboard
(I usually push it several times) and this will force the system to boot
from the default bootlist - removable sources first. If pushing "5"
will not help, try pushing "6" in the above mentioned boot phase - this
should boot the system into SMS mode, where you will be able to select
the correct boot device.
Hope this will help,
Roman
