Jeffery,
I've generally had problems getting files to install off of my own CDs
in AIX 5.x. Usually the way around this is to SCP the files to /tmp or
something from my workstation and then run inutoc from within /tmp.

I'm running AIX 5.3.0.0 and woul like to apply ML04 but don't have a
copy. It's a 1.5GB download which is too big, so I used FTP to
download the relevant filesets, ignoring some large filesets that we
don't use. Thus I have a directory containing many files such as:
bos.64bit.5.3.0.30.bff
bos.acct.5.3.0.30.bff
bos.adt.5.3.0.30.bff
etc.
How do I build this into a bundle that installp will read?
If you are in that directory, then:
# inutoc .
Then to apply the updates:
# smitty update_all

Thanks, gentlemen.
I had created the .toc file using inutoc and then written all the files
to CD, however when I ran installp against that to see the list of
filesets it too several minutes to respond and then gave error messages
saying "/cdrom is not a valid device or file" and "No installable
software products were found on the media". I never thought of trying
to run installp against the files on disk because I want to delete them
from there once I have the CD method working. Now that I look at it I
see that the error log has registered a lot of "disk operation errors"
against the CD and when it's running the CD driver certainly does sound
like it's doing a lot of re-reads.
I'll burn another CD...
Jeffrey
