I need to increase the LUN size serverd by my EMC SAN (Clariion) to my
RS/6000. They're telling me that I need to vary off the volume group,
run cfgmgr, then vary it back on again in order for AIX to recognize
the additional space. That makes sense to me, but does anyone here
know if there's any way to get AIX to recognize the extra space without
taking the VG down. I suspect the answer is no, but figured it was
worth asking.
Instead of making the LUN larger, why don't you bind a second LUN on
the Clarion,
assign it to the storage group on your Clariion, run cfgmgr on AIX, add
the new lun into
the same volume group as the one you need to make larger, then either
make the filesystem larger, or define a new filesystem. None of this
would require an outage.
