Sysback ping failure

I'm trying to do a restore of a AIX 5.3 system. Before restoring over
the existing system, I am able to ping the sysback server, and the
sysback server can ping the client.
However, when I actually begin the restore, I get a failure on the
first 2 ping tests, then success on 3rd and subsequent ping tests.
When I let the restore continue, I get as far as the "welcome to AIX"
screen, then I get a 0610 on the operator console panel. The server
and the client are both lpars on the same 9117-570 system.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks.
